Building On Bond Is The Ultimate Meeting Spot No Matter What Time It Is

If you’ve ever stepped foot in Stanton Social in Manhattan or Red Hook Lobster Pound in Brooklyn (among about a hundred other food and drink hotspots), you’ve seen the design work of Hecho, Inc. The Brooklyn-based design team — John Kole, Phil Morgan, and Jeff Kaufmann — is known for using reclaimed materials, and their Downtown Brooklyn HQ is located upstairs from their restaurant Building On Bond. Open from 7 a.m. until 12 a.m. every single day, Building On Bond is the type of all-spot that’s perfect for a breakfast meeting, a casual sandwich-and-beer lunch, a team dinner, or a nightcap.

So perfect a meeting place that we had to stop in and get the scoop, which we got from Michael, the friendly general manager: He recommends the Old Bay fried chicken sandwich and the Bob’s Cobb with grilled salmon. He also proudly pointed out the tables, custom-made two-tops that — in lieu of placemats — boast double spools of craft paper held down by hinges of an old piano. A quick survey of the space also reveals a back wall covered in letterpress drawers, a collection of antiques (like a pristine vintage Bingo spinner), and loads of refurbished milk crates as storage — all classic Hecho Inc. design details. It’s an inspiring place to think, meet, and eat, to say the least.
